Ballyfermot Parish

New Interprovincial Project in a Dublin Parish.

On 19th August 2011, the Redemptorist Provincial Council reflected on the invitation of the Archbishop of Dublin to consider taking responsibility for an adjoining parish to the Parish of Cherry Orchard where the Redemptorists have been ministering about ten years.

After serious consideration of the various options, the Council decided to accept the Archbishop’s invitation to take responsibility for Assumption Parish in Ballyfermot, which borders on Cherry Orchard Parish.

Fr. Richard (Dick) Delahunty, Fr. Con Kenneally and German Redemptorist Fr. Winfried Pauly (from the St. Clement’s Province) have been appointed to the Parish.

Alongside being Parish Priest Fr. Delahunty has also been appointed as Co-ordinator of the Redemptorist Community.

Frs. Delahunty and Kenneally have laboured for many years in the Redemptorist Vice-Province of Fortaleza in the north-east of Brazil.  For the past three years Fr. Delahunty has been Administrator of the Redemptorist Parish of St. Joseph in Dundalk.  Fr. Kenneally is recently returned from Brazil.  Most recently Fr. Pauly has ministered for the past year in the Redemptorist Parish of St. Mary’s, Clapham, south London.  Prior to that he worked in the former East Germany where only 1% of the population are Christian.

Our confreres took up their ministry in Ballyfermot on Saturday 10th September.
