For about 40 years John was, in many ways, “the Face” of the Redemptorist Poor Campaign. Saturday after Saturday he spent about two hours interviewing people coming for help and providing them with food parcels or vouchers to obtain other necessary items.

John’s involvement with the Redemptorists was much wider and he took an active part each year in preparing for the Solemn Novena, also providing security for the church and monastery during those nine days.

In 2008, in recognition for his many years of service to the Mount St. Alphonsus community he was invested as an Oblate of the Congregation.

A note on the rip.ie website alludes to his army career “Former President of O.N.E. Limerick Branch & Late of 3rd Fld. S&T, also Chief Driver Tester RSA, and Redemptorist Poor Campaign.

Beloved husband of Phil and dearest father of Liam, Séan, Joseph, Breda, Micéal and Caitriona. Deeply regretted by his wife and family, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, his 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

 Rest in Peace.
