Fr. Sean Moore C.Ss.R. R.I.P 21st February 2024

Father Sean Moore was born in Cork in 1933, the second eldest of six children. He spent the last year of his secondary education in the Redemptorist Juvenate, Limerick. He then joined the Novitiate in Esker where he was Professed as a  Redemptorist in 1951. He was ordained in 1958 in Cluain Mhuire Galway.

His life of ministry was wide and varied and he held a number of significant positions in the Province. He served in the Limerick  Retreat House, was Vocations director, Prefect of students in Cluain Mhuire, Director of the Esker Retreat House , Rector in Esker Monastery,  Rector in Mount St. Alphonsus Limerick and later Rector in Marianella, Dublin and Director of Novices in Dundalk.

For the past several years, Fr. Sean was assigned to St. Clement’s Retreat House and when that closed he moved to Clonard Monastery. During his years in Clonard, he was very active on school and parish missions and retreats. In all his activity he was firmly rooted in a deep spirituality.  He was an avid reader and he was a man of deep prayer in which he was able to freely mix Yoga with contemplative and mystical prayer.

One of his last ministries, in which he took particular delight, was being a team member on the Tres Dias Ecumenical Retreats for prisoners in local prisons. He will be remembered for his warm rendering of the Clonard Wave at the end of Mass as he embraced everyone online.

He will be sorely missed by his family, his confreres and friends.  May he Rest in Peace.
